Alleged drunk driver crashes into police car, faces DWI charges

If you choose to drive after consuming alcohol, you must be extra vigilant about what you do as you drive. Watching out for pedestrians, other vehicles and obstacles in the roadway are all part of driving safely. One New York driver is facing drunk driving charges after hitting a parked police cruiser that had the rooftop lights activated.

The accident occurred on the night of Jan. 10, 2014 between Bethune and West 12th in Greenwich Village. The 50-year-old man ran into a marked police cruiser that had another vehicle pulled over. According to the report, the cruiser's rooftop lights were flashing. When the man's car hit the cruiser, the cruiser was pushed into the car that had been stopped. There were no injuries reported in the accident.

The driver who allegedly caused the accident submitted to a Breathalyzer test. He blew a .07 on the test. The officer also noted that the driver was unsteady on his feet, had watery and bloodshot eyes, the odor of alcohol on his breath and a flushed face. The man was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

The driver charged in this case now has to face potentially serious consequences for the accident. Before he answers to those charges, he may want to seek the assistance of a lawyer with experience in defending against DWI charges to ensure that he understands the meaning of the charges and the consequences. By learning how to properly answer the charges, he might be able to minimize the consequences he faces for this accident.
