New York man faces charges for crash that killed his uncle

The last thing you expect when you are riding around with family members or friends is to get into a car accident. Unfortunately, you don't always remain safe while driving. For one New York man, driving around with his uncle just after dropping a friend off led to a serious car accident, which police are claiming was caused by the driver being under the influence of alcohol.

A 20-year-old man was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 when the truck went off the south shoulder of the road. Police think the truck caught on fire after rolling several times. In the course of the accident, a 40-year-old man was ejected from the truck. That man was killed.

The 20-year-old man was interviewed by police and released to his family from the Albany Medical Center. At that time, he was charged with failure to use the designated lane and first-offense DWI.

After his release, he went back to the scene of the accident where officers noticed he was intoxicated and arrested him on a second-degree manslaughter charge. A breath sample showed the man had a blood-alcohol level of .09 percent. He is being held at the Columbia County Jail on a $10,000 cash bail. He is expected in court on Jan. 13, 2014.

A drunk driving accident can have serious consequences for the driver and passengers. When these accidents occur, the person who was driving can sometimes face criminal charges for the results of the accident. If you are facing charges for a drunk driving accident, having the aid of an experienced New York lawyer can help you to understand the charges against you and how to appropriately respond to those charges.
