When you are driving, being aware of what is going on around you is vital to ensure that you and the people sharing the road with you remain safe. When anything, such as alcohol, fatigue or distractions come into play, accidents can occur. In some cases, those accidents can lead to criminal charges being filed against the driver who allegedly caused the accident. For one driver in New York, allegedly being intoxicated led to an accident that was followed by what appears to be an interesting series of events.
According to reports, a driver sideswiped a tractor-trailer on a highway. The 48-year-old driver of a blue van allegedly kept on driving after he hit the semi-truck. People who shared the roadway with the driver followed him until they were able to box him in when he exited the highway.
When law enforcement officials arrived on the scene, the man was arrested. Police report that his wife, who was also in the van, was apparently intoxicated. The driver was arrested on a driving under the influence charge, as well as other traffic offenses and reckless endangerment.
This man now must answer to a set of charges that have been filed against him. Before he answers to those charges, he must make sure that he understands what each charge means. He should also make sure he understands the consequences, such as jail time or fines, which are possible with each charge. Seeking advice from a New York criminal defense attorney might help him to get answers to any questions he has regarding his charges.
