Alleged drunk driver crashes into New York Police building

| May 23, 2014 | Drunk Driving Charges

It goes without saying that drivers need to be constantly aware of their surroundings. A person who has decided to drive after consuming alcohol may have a slowed reaction time to their surroundings that can be caused by even the most tiny bit of alcohol. A recent incident in New York City shows how important it is to remain extra vigilant while driving.

The incident occurred at around 7:15 in the morning when a man who was allegedly driving while intoxicated drove into the New York Police Department headquarters. He was tailgating the authorized vehicle in front of him and was able to enter the plaza.

As he was driving, he was able to slip through one of the pressurized barriers while it was letting the car in front of him through. He wasn’t so lucky with the second security gate, located at Rose Street and Avenue of the Finest, as he ended up colliding with it. When he was questioned by cops, he said that his global positioning system took him to his current location.

The man was taken into custody in response to the accident. He now has to deal with the charges stemming from this alleged drunk driving accident. While he can be thankful that nobody was hurt, he did damage his Volkswagen in the incident. He may end up having to face harsh consequences, such as time in jail, fines, license suspension, or community service, if he is found guilty of the charges for which he was arrested. Understanding the laws and his rights might enable him to answer to these charges in the best manner possible.
