Serious consequences for officer charged with drunk driving

| Jul 25, 2014 | Drunk Driving Charges

It is no secret that being charged with drunk driving in New York can have a profound impact on a defendant’s life. What some people don’t realize is just how far reaching these consequences can be. Many people tend to think that the consequences end with fines, time in jail and other legal actions. That, however, is a big misconception because drunk driving charges can potentially affect your job, your reputation and your family. Those are in addition to the legal consequences you face. In the case of one Port Authority cop, driving under the influence of alcohol ended up costing him his job.

The man was stopped in June of 2012 in his Port Authority vehicle. It was discovered that he was drunk when he was pulled over. In fact, his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. The cop’s blood alcohol concentration was .19 when he was stopped.

In his most recent legal hearing, the cop was trying to get his job back. His lawsuit was unsuccessful. The judge presiding over the case noted that he had been disciplined before for discharging a firearm in a bar parking lot.

While everyone makes mistakes, there are times when those mistakes will come back to bite you later and in more ways than expected. For this man, a drunk driving charge cost him his livelihood. His story should serve as a reminder for anyone who is accused of a crime. Making sure that you offer a suitable defense might help you to minimize the consequences of the charges.
