After hit-and-run, woman dies in burning car

A woman in New York passed away in a terrifying accident after her SUV was hit by a driver who then tried to flee the scene.

The woman normally took the train to work, but she had decided to drive on the fateful day. She worked at a FedEx call center, where she was headed around 7:20 a.m.

That's when an Audi slammed into her Honda CR-V. The impact flipped the small SUV over and it burst into flames. The woman passed away before emergency crews could rescue her. She was 57 years old at the time.

The man driving the Audi was 37 years old. According to reports, he had a Rottweiler in the car with him and he was weaving all over the road, cutting through traffic, when he caused the accident. He then allegedly tried to drive away from the accident scene, before crashing into four more vehicles.

When all five of those accidents finally stopped his car, he got out with the Rottweiler and tried to flee on foot. However, the police had arrived by that time and they arrested the man.

In the wake of the accident, the woman's family members were asked about her, and one of them said: "[She] was the safest rule-abiding driver on the planet."

This story is a tragic reminder that you can follow all of the traffic rules and be as safe as possible, and you could still suffer serious injuries or lose a loved one in a car accident. If this happens to you, make sure you know what legal options you have to seek financial compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages and more.
