A fight at a Valley Stream Applebee's results in 4 arrests

Four men were taken into police custody at an Applebee's restaurant in Valley Stream early in the morning on March 17, after getting involved in a violent fight just before midnight.

A spokesperson with the Nassau County Police Department notes that a 27-year-old Jamaica, Queens, resident and a 28-year-old Freeport man, were visiting the Green Acres Mall restaurant when they started arguing with two other customers who were there. Those other individuals have been identified as a 24-year-old Ozone Park, Queens, resident and a 24-year-old Brooklyn man.

The responding officer's report reflects that the two younger suspects followed the 28-year-old one into the restroom. Once inside, the pair apparently threw blows at the Freeport man then left him inside. They then returned to their table and had dinner.

Later that evening, all four suspects left the restaurant at the same time. Another verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical one. One of the 24-year-old's was stabbed in the chest. The knife punctured his lung. The 28-year-old was struck in the face around this same time. It's unclear who threw that blow.

Long Island police officers were summoned to the scene. The 24-year-old who suffered the punctured lung was placed under arrest and then transported to the hospital for treatment. The other three were also taken into police custody.

Investigators later found two knives that had been used in the commission of the crime there on the premises. They also discovered that the 28-year-old suspect had a white powdery substance on him at the time of his arrest.

The 28-year-old was booked in jail on menacing and possession of a controlled substance charges. He and his 27-year-old male companion were also arrested on weapons possession charges. All four men were arrested on suspicion of assault. All four were slated to be arraigned on March 18 in First District Court in Hempstead.

Individuals who get caught up in bar fights often end up getting arrested on assault charges. An individual that has a conviction for a violent crime on their record may have difficulty in securing employment or in retaining custody of their kids. In cases such as this, it can be beneficial to have a criminal defense attorney representing you who also has experience in working as a prosecutor on similar types of cases in New York.
