Beware of rainy pavement when riding a motorcycle

Motorcycle riding is a fun activity during the warmer months of the year. One thing that all riders must be vigilant about is riding in the rain. The risk of riding on slick pavement is great for all vehicles, but it is even more dangerous for motorcyclists. It is imperative for riders to handle riding in these conditions appropriately, so they can remain as safe as possible.

If there is a chance that it will rain, make sure that you are wearing the correct gear. You need your helmet, but you should also add in waterproof gear that can help you remain dry and warm as you ride. If it is supposed to be cool and rainy, you can wear gloves so that you don’t have frozen fingers as you are trying to ride.

Take your time as you ride. Trying to rush on the slippery surface can mean that you lose control of the bike. Make sure that you leave plenty of time to stop the motorcycle. It will take you longer to stop on a wet road than a dry one. Remember that turns can also be dangerous because of changes in traction.

You should watch for other motorists. Since most motorcycles have been put up for the winter months, motorists might not be watching for them. Double check the roads at intersections to be sure that other drivers are stopping when they should and that they are watching for you.

If you are struck by a driver who isn’t paying attention, be sure to have a medical evaluation even if you don’t think you are injured. You might also explore the possibility of seeking compensation to help you recover the financial damages.
